Program Overview
The Freedom Summer Arts & Activism Youth Program is a free arts education program that will be made available to New York City school children from Middle School through High School. The program will take place over the course of two weeks in July and August, situated at the Judson Memorial Church and the adjacent Washington Square Park.
The program will introduce up to 20 students to a broad range of arts subjects, including music, dance, painting, and more, taught by local artists and activists. The program will also explore the intersection between art and activism, as well as provide catered meals to students and volunteers.
Each class will be proportioned one instructor, and one or two volunteer facilitators, to 15-20 students of mixed ages. At the end of each week, students will have the opportunity to showcase their art and engage in meaningful discussions with their peers on their work and what art means to them.
All arts supplies and materials will be provided by the program, and the organizers are following all covid-19 safety guidelines and protocols in order to provide a holistic experience for students.
